General eligibility requirements

In order to participate in co-op, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be registered as a full-time student
  • meet the program eligibility requirements
  • return to full-time studies after the co-op placement
  • be eligible to work in Canada**

**The student must be either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid work permit/VISA. Co-ops at the federal government are usually open to Canadian citizens only.

Program-specific eligibility requirements

Some programs have specific co-op eligibility requirements. You must meet the general eligibility requirements and the following program-specific requirements:

Accounting and Management Technology

First co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed a minimum of one English course
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all General Education discipline-specific scheduled within the program profile
  • have successfully completed a minimum of two English courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Computer Science

First co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed at least one English course
  • have a 70% or higher average, calculated using all courses which contribute to the Computer Science
  • maintain academic standards all in the second semester courses

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed at least two English courses
  • have a 70% or higher average, calculated using all courses which contribute to the Computer Science program
  • maintain academic standards in all the fourth semester courses

Early Childhood Education

First co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed a minimum of one English course
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all General Education discipline-specific courses as scheduled within the program profile
  • have successfully completed a minimum of two English courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Electronics Engineering Technology 

First co-op

You must: 

  • have successfully completed all first semester program-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed at least one English course
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all discipline-specific courses

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed a minimum of two English courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all discipline-specific courses

Graphic and Web Design

First co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed at least one English course
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed at least two English courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Special Education Techniques

First co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first semester discipline-specific courses, including Fieldwork 1
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all second semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed at least one English courses
  • have successfully completed at least one French courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Second co-op

You must:

  • have successfully completed all first, second, and third semester discipline-specific courses, including Fieldwork 2
  • be enrolled in/have successfully completed all fourth semester discipline-specific courses
  • have successfully completed at least two English courses
  • have successfully completed at least two French courses
  • maintain an overall average of 70% or higher in all semesters

Ministry of Education eligibility requirements

In order for your co-op placement to be recognized by the Ministry of Education, your placement must be at least 8 consecutive weeks of paid full-time work (minimum 4 days a week / 28 hours per week or more) and you must return to full-time studies after the co-op.

Co-op fees

There is a $70 administration fee per co-op placement. This fee is applicable whether you find your own co-op placement or whether The College finds one for you. This fee is used to cover the cost of running the co-op program.

You will be notified of the fee and payment deadline in April via Omnivox. If you choose not to participate in co-op, will not need to pay this fee.
